HR was born and raised in rural Ohio where he developed an interest in firearms at a young age. After graduating High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as an MP. During the course of his military training, he received the intensive instruction accorded to all Marines, as well as specialized training reserved for Military Police personnel. For the remainder of his enlistment, he conducted law enforcement operations on Marine installations in the US and abroad. Among them were MCAS Cherry Point NC, MCAS Iwakuni Japan, Yechon Korea (Operation Team Spirit February - August 1988). In 1991, HR was recalled to active duty in the USMC in support of Operation Desert Storm. At that time, he was assigned to PMO MCAS New River NC.
After his tour in the Marine Corps, HR pursued a civilian law enforcement career. In 1990 he graduated Basic Peace Officer Training and was certified as a Peace Officer in the state of Ohio. Two years later, he was selected to become a firearms instructor. Eventually, he was certified to instruct law enforcement officers in the use of revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, shotguns, patrol rifles, scope-sighted rifles, and sub-machineguns. Concurrently He became a certified armorer (S&W pistols, Remington Shotguns & Rifles, AR15 rifles, Glock Pistols). He also joined the department’s SWAT team. As a tactical operator he Initially served as a member of the entry team, but was eventually trained as a Sniper. In 1999, upon being promoted to the rank of Sergeant, He assumed duties as the department’s SWAT team leader. In 2006 HR began training private citizens who were seeking to obtain their Ohio Concealed Handgun License.
In addition to his other duties, HR continued to serve as a tactical operator, Sniper, armorer and firearms instructor until 2014. At that time, he accepted the position of Chief of Police for a neighboring community. He served as Chief in that department until retiring from law enforcement in 2021. Upon leaving law enforcement, HR accepted a position with private security firm in the Cleveland area. As an armed security officer with that firm, he received additional firearms instruction from US based and international trainers.
To compliment his instructional efforts, HR began producing firearms related videos in 2012. In 2018, he commenced a video series during which he evaluated law enforcement handgun qualification courses from each of the United States. To date, he has produced over 1000 videos. He is also a lifelong martial artist having earned a third degree black belt in Karate, a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a second degree black belt in Tai-Ho Jitsu.
HR currently resides in rural Ohio with his wife Mimi, and a rambunctious golden-doodle named Chewy.
